In our RV life, we have learned not to judge a book by its cover! We drove to what seemed like the end of the earth and arrived to a very remote campground with not a lot to look at. When we say remote, we mean remote! There is a grocery store with gas pumps about a mile before you arrive, but that's it. No ice cream shops, no fun beach stores, no pool ... nothing but a campground. A campground where we spent the most AMAZING ten days of peace, tranquility and soulful reflection that you can imagine. We happened to be staying over July 4th weekend, which made for a different feel - fortunately only lasting for two days. The word "Resort" in their new name doesn't need to be there. A resort makes you think that there are tons of amenities, but this place does not have that. That's exactly what you will love about it! It's mostly a quiet place with beautiful scenery since you truly are at the end of the earth. There is nowhere else to go if you don't have a boat or ferry! You can ride the Cedar Island horses (make reservations ahead of your stay!), ride the ferry to Ocracoke (and even take another ferry from there to Hatteras), walk the pristine white-sand untouched beaches where you will see the wild Cedar Island horses and cows - yes, cows! You are on Pamlico Sound, so you can wade out into the water forever and see your feet the water is so clear. We spent days just sitting in the water with our chairs with music and basically by ourselves. At night, the campground is very quiet. There were only a few golf carts, which were brought in with the July 4th campers. There are several "extended-stay" campers that take up space but aren't always there. Most of the spaces are full hookups, and some are water-view. There is a small dog park, a small bathhouse, an office with a small gift shop, and a small playground. There is a restaurant called Bay Breeze next to the office which is basically a typical campground food spot with pool tables. We ate dinner there only once and, in our opinion, probably the worst meal we've ever had in any campground. Frozen seafood heated up and a baked potato that clearly had not been cooked that day and was cold. However! We met another couple that said they had a better experience and enjoyed their meal, so we would say give it a try. You don't need reservations for the ferry unless it's a holiday. Take the ferry over to Ocracoke (2 hrs/15 min) and rent a golf cart in any number of places (book n advance if it's a holiday weekend). I will say that we did not book one and did just fine. There are two campgrounds on Ocracoke - NPS/Ocracoke Camground/National Park Service and Jerniman's, which is family-owned campground, small and very crowded. You can drive the island in about 20 minutes to the Hatteras ferry. Lots of public access points and some that you can drive out onto the beach, although you need a permit I believe. Our FAVORITE place to eat is Eduardo's - the most AMAZING authentic Mexican food you will ever have. We choose them every time, although I know there are other equally great places to eat. Don't leave the Island before visiting Village Craftsmen gift shop! You have never seen so many local artisan pieces anywhere ... so unique! We drove six hours to get to Cedar Island RV Resort and will do it many more times!…
We had a lovely sunset ride on the beach and we even saw a rainbow!! We would highly recommend enjoying a horseback ride during your stay!! The horses are wonderful to ride and are very well kept!! Thank you Dori Nora and Andy
Very pleased! Although not completely finished with renovations,,they are definately on the right track. Pleasant sites, some in full sun,,but also many in shade, waterfront or other, clean shower and restroom combos, etc. no pool and do not know if that is in plans, but they do have stables with guided horse rides to see the Cedar Island wild herd. There is a grill/bar across the street with a motel also partially renovated, and within walking distance, golf carts for rent, and located right at the ferry landing for convenience (ferry for Ocracoke). We had a wonderful time and will be back to visit.
