Great family cottage with everything you need for a short break. Lovely quite location with easy access to local amenities of Dumfries only a short drive away.

Having been to this area a year ago we decided to come back but this time stayed at Cargenbank Farmhouse. The cottage is lovely and bright and has everything you need. The owners couldn’t be more helpful. They were very helpful before we arrived and during our stay, putting in baby gates and high chairs before we arrived. Although the cottage is by the A75, you really don’t hear any noise and the road the cottage is situated on is very quiet and safe for families. The bedrooms are large, and again bright and airy. There are supermarkets within a short driving distance and lots of places to visit. I would highly recommend, we definitely hope to be back soon.

We had a great stay in this fabulous cottage. Real home from home in this traditional cottage with modern amenities. Very comfy beds and we loved the log burner. Nice little garden to relax in if weather nice and lovely, helpful owner. Great value for money.

Excellent accommodation, really home from home. Weather was excellent when we stayed which really helped. Cottage warm and cozy, we were given a warm welcome on arrival by owner and a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits which were welcome after drive. Would definitely book a return visit.

I stayed in Cargenbank Farm House for an extended period and have nothing but good things to say! Anna and her family have been so kind and accommodating and nothing was ever too much trouble. The house is well-maintained and spacious, with everything you could need in it. The master bed is super comfortable, linen and towels are of great quality, and there is lots of wardrobe and drawer space. The heating is good too, and the recently upgraded wifi didn't miss a beat. If you're concerned about noise from the A75, don't be. The house is is well insulated, the double-glazed windows are brand spanking new and you'll hear some muffled highway noise here and there but it never bothered me or kept me awake at all. Highly recommended if you're after some peace and serenity and a fantastic base for discovering Dumfries and Galloway.

We stayed here for a week visiting family over Christmas with our two sons (aged 2 years 4 months and newborn) and it was perfect. We arrived on a freezing, cold and windy day but the farmhouse was lovely and warm, even without using the excellent wood burning stove. The owners were lovely and kindly provided not only a lovely Christmas tree, but travel cots with bedding, a high chair and a stair gate, as well as additional wood for the stove which was available for a very reasonable price during the course of the stay. I had reservations about the safety of the staircase in the photo but actually there are additional bars in the bannister to those pictured so the gaps are much smaller. The stairs are steep but my toddler managed them ok. The Farmhouse is finished to a high standard with beautiful antique furniture in the bedrooms, which are also lovely and cosy with good quality, comfy bedding. Although the main road is close to the house, noise is minimal and the road immediately in front of the house is the old A Road and now a dead end so very quiet. My toddler was able to go there on his bike quite safely albeit supervised and there were horses coming past from time to time. We saw very few cars. The Farmhouse is only 10 minutes' drive from the town centre and less than that to the enormous Tesco superstore. The owners kindly left us a welcome bundle of tea, coffee, milk , biscuits etc on the first night. It was great to have a washing machine and to stay in a lovely Farmhouse that was genuinely pet free - we have allergies so this was an important factor for us. The only downside (if we had to pick one) was that the wifi was great to start with but really struggled once guests arrived in the other cottages. It probably made for a better family holiday but wouldn't have been ideal if trying to work. I have heard that the internet in general is not great in Dumfries & Galloway so it's perhaps a local problem rather than specific to the Farmhouse. But in summary, a beautiful farmhouse that has been very lovingly renovated and made a lovely family home for us over Christmas - and most importantly warm!! Hopefully we'll be back!
