This cabin is high on a hill above the harbor, with a partial view through a big old stone hotel and a big old stone house, and some trees. The conservatory, facing SW, gets good afternoon sun (when it isn’t raining) and was nice and warm (and a good place to dry clothes taken out of the washer). This sun porch has a couch, an easy chair, a coffee table, and a dining table with four chairs, but we ate at the dining table inside because the porch was either too hot or too cold. Sloping down from the cottage is a grassy yard, and a picnic table and BBQ. Walking through the back yard you can access at path down the hill into town. The living room has two couches, an easy chair, a coffee table, and a dining table with four chairs. One double bed bedroom and one with two twin beds. The bathroom doesn't have any place to put your toiletries but has a nice tub. Welcome pack with two small packages of cookies and a small bottle of whisky from the local distillery. Kitchen with stove and double oven and all the rest of the amenities. You pay for electric, which we sort of liked as it keeps you thinking about the environment and not wasting energy. We didn't like having to take our trash way down to the bottom of the hill, where it was a challenge to dig out the correct trash bin from the pile of them sitting there. The owner did a great job of supplying local information, including a book of trail maps that could be removed for hiking and then returned. Both of the local hikes, to Aros Park in one direction, and to the lighthouse in the other, offered stunning views along well-kept paths. We noted from reading the Guest Book that many people come back year after year to this cabin. What better recommendation is there than that? Needless to say, Tobermory is a colorful and charming town, with an interesting harbor and good shops. This Island Cabin is the perfect base for enjoying it. Thank you, James, for a wonderful stay.
